In case we forget
In case we forget avatar

There must be a way?…

i am ignorant of the ways of past cattlemen but the culling of brumbies has stirred an emotion in me that has hope in the future management of the Australian Brumby.

We all do lip service to a pledge “Lest we Forget” then we must be faithful to preserve the origins and memory of the legendary “Light Horse”.

So this could be a chance to educate and engage all involved Australians in studious management to stand by the words we proudly anthem Advance Australia F…

We as Australians are all under pressure to preserve this icon but in so doing we also are charged with the sensible management of our sensitive and historic environments.

Ponderings of Influence
Ponderings of Influence avatar

cork

I’m thinking of ways to improve the Jindabyne community in view of a CDD (Community Driven Development). That is… to have some influence of control toward our own destiny and spending.
Elections are looming and i feel like a cork bobbing in the high seas subject to the uncontrolled elements.
Any thoughts?…. Or are we all happy to still bob along like the frog in the beaker of rising water temperature soon to reach boiling point then to remain in a petrified state?
Maybe, if we were to start a CDD project and begin to become a wealthy community that can lean on decisions which affect our local life style like the super wealthy can and do, then that little cork may become a stopper again and contain a very sort after inebriating vintage and placed in a prominent position awaiting to be indulged?

Rainbow Bociangler
Rainbow Bociangler avatar

Giday all, I’ve added the info below for the Snowy River legendary Master Fisherman “Mathew Bocian”…. see below:

hi

We can enjoy fishing the rivers now- good example nice rainbow (6.5 pounds)

from Thredbo River on opening weekend. This is time when nymphs work the best
but dry fly like beetle or caddies imitation should get some response from fish.

On the lakes the best for me trusty woolly bugger in olive or black colour.

For fishing mates in new season -all the best

from Matt.

The Life And Times Of A True Heroine
The Life And Times Of A True Heroine avatar

I would like to acknowledge the life and times of a true heroine.

The twilight of the roaring thirties sees an attractive young lady having experienced life during the depression….. trolling through life after a forced early separation from her family as a little girl and “typically” was raised in an abusive environment.

During her Duty to her country with the ADF ….. she falls heavily for a boy, also in uniform, and is lured toward a transition to another culture ….. In the mix, somehow, along with religious influences, she raises a family and begins to create refuge in a foreign, primitive country, which sometimes has a violent social behaviour. Having inherited determination from her Celtic aristocratic, warrior like ancestry, she forged ahead for a few short years until she is finally able to enjoy an affluent colonial lifestyle. While mixing with international embassy personnel, as her husband builds a successful and thriving shipping company, the dice turns again and she loses everything as the country is overthrown by a violent coup d’état, which only this year, 2014, is showing some signs of democracy.

Having survived the exploding skirmishes erupting around her, she endures a traumatic escape to her original country, as is documented in the movie “The Year Of Living Dangerously”, then struggles through the prejudice-tic “White Australia Policy” as she manages to return 80% of her immediate family to her birthplace. Her husband who had transferred the ADF on allied ships to Kokoda and the like, while serving in the Australian allied forces during WW2, was now discriminated against and not allowed back into Australia.

She was then left to raise her young family by herself. She set out in search of employment in the rag trade as an ironing lady then progressed to gain credentials as a seamstress. A number of hard years passed as she successfully settled in a caring community. Without any understanding of her struggle and eventual achievements …… She is then unfairly beckoned to return to care for her ailing mothers demise. Yes… the mother that was forced to let her go when she was a little girl during the depression.

She is approaching the years when most would enjoy retirement and this is the third time in her life that her only choice leads to loosing everything she has managed to put together.

After showing the Australian Immigration Department a photo of her husband fully interacting and entrenched in a post war soccer club, her persistence forces the department to concede and allow his entry. By this stage in time, her mother passes away, and her husband who is now on in years, also passes away soon after.

Her troubles do not end there. Further life tribulations arise as she struggles to understand the behaviour of her troubled children and grandchildren as they in turn troll through the legacy of the past traumas.

Looking at her past, confusion reigned in her stormy life but she soldiered on with dignity like a true Celtic warrior while her memory fades and as dementia now takes hold. It is good that these memories no-longer trouble her. I am confident that her defiant attitude and the ability to see it through is now a trait in all her offspring and descendants alike, which will allow them all to make the difference in their endeavours.

Her name is Elsie Lillian Archdeacon Luntungan and I invite all who know her to come and acknowledge her ninety years of existence at an afternoon tea on Saturday, September the 13th 2014, at the home of Tom and Catherine Sargent situated in the Sydney suburb of Earlwood.

I am pleased to say, with pride, that this heroine is my mother.

I love you mum.

August Moon
August Moon avatar

We’re keen to throw a match into the pile of wood that has been sitting on the side of the hill since this time last year. The 9th of August will be a super full moon. Hope the wind will subside by then, and the temperature stay cool enough not to pose a fire risk. If anybody is interested in a BBQ and indulging in a wine or lager then we could turn this into an interesting night.

Road ahead
Road ahead avatar

Thursday 8th May 10 am, I have a meeting with Peter Burns (surveyor) to identify the location of survey pegs that mark the extents of a 20 metre “Legal access” that will circumnavigate The Fairly property. Once identified, Morry and I can Dozer our way through from Bushy Park Road to Timmins grid at the entry to Timmins Ridge Track…. Hmmm? good name for the access road! Woddooya reckon?

I have already walked the road with Peter Bottom to extract his version of things that will concern him, as it will now pass through his side of the new subdivision of the Fairly property.

Concerns to address will be:

  • Provide 2 gates along with provisions for future installation of cattle grids at either end of the access through Peter Bottoms property.
  • Busting through the existing Fairly dam which will reveal a creek crossing or two. This will be fun for those who do not have 4wds.
  • Choosing the best position for the entry grid at the junction to Bushy Park Road. Positioning this cattle grid will be critical, as it will effect another access into the subdivision which has attracted a request from an adjoining block on the new subdivision.
  • Choosing an initial path through the 20 metre access provision that will not damage the existing underground telephone wires which run along the same 20 metre space (apparently not in a straight line between known points).

Hmm…. Eeeeeeasy….. The above bulleted concerns will each be a major undertaking for their successful implementation. However, viewed from another angle, it will be easier to manage the unwanted guests to our part of the world and I have been shown the whereabouts of the real historical gold digging site which lies along the creek bed within the same 20 metre access provision. Maybe?.. in a romantic moment… naming this part of the track may include some suggestion of the now known historical activity that took place there many years ago. Perhaps, a late discovery may pay for the above?

“You shall not pass” – New road to Mordor
“You shall not pass” – New road to Mordor avatar

I received a phone call from Lindsay Sirett (our new neighbour) last night who informed me that he was not going to sanction any further legal access other than those already set in place upon his purchase of the Fairly property in 2013. I thanked him anyway for considering the possibility while making it clear to him that I was not impressed that we were not informed at all that the Fairly property had been sold until after the fact of the transfer process. This eradicated the prospect of moving forward with the previously anticipated thoroughfare around the Heirloom property.

We are now faced with the remaining options of a) following the paper roads or b) entering into further negotiations with Rob Helsby and Annie Bottom to cut a new road behind their cabin on the Avonside side (and follow the contours above their lower dam to arrive at the Helsby/Timmins cattle grid). So it is timely that Morry is aquiring a D6 dozer for us to utilise in the event!
